5 Portraits. Piano Concert for International Women's Day
The music of Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Sofia Gubaidulina, Nastasia Khrushcheva and Alisa Dukhovlinova is regularly performed at concerts around the world. However, their compositions have never been featured in a single programme.
'5 Portraits' is an opportunity to hear them together and explore the evolution of piano language over nearly two centuries.
From the romantic cantilenas of the 19th century to contemporary work with sound and quotations. From personal feeling to an awareness of music as a space of cultural memory. From expressive intonation to music that explores the very nature of sound: its decay, duration, fragility and context of perception.
The author of the programme and performer is the winner of international competitions, concert pianist German Markhasin. German's concerts are remarkable not only for his virtuoso performance, but also for their thoughtful dramaturgy, which transforms each evening into a complete musical narrative in which the music is revealed in a particularly vivid and emotional way.
Concert programme:
Fanny Mendelssohn — Nocturne in G minor
Clara Schumann — Pieces for Piano, Op. 15
Sofia Gubaidulina — "Musical Toys" cycle
Nastasia Khrushcheva — "Russian Dead Ends" (First time in Armenia!)
Alisa Dukhovlinova — Passacaglia 'In the Sands'
(based on the poem by Maya Grigorieva)
'5 Portraits' is a piano concert in which five personalities, five female destinies, come together to tell you a story about a beautiful and reverent attitude towards the world.
The concert will take place in the modern acoustic hall of the Komitas Museum-Institute with a unique Kawai grand piano.
See you on 8 March!
