KAMIL TCHALAEV | THE CONTINUOUS THREAD

November 13 (Friday), 19:00
 Philharmonia | Babajanyan Concert Hall

Sonatas and Trios on Period Instruments

A rare 1850 Pleyel grand piano, retaining almost all its original strings, will be brought to Babajanyan Concert Hall especially for this performance. It will be heard alongside a cello made in Mirecourt in 1862 and a replica of Stradivari’s “Hellier” violin, crafted in Cremona in 2005. Personally tuned by Tchalaev according to Serge Cordier’s method of pure fifths, the Pleyel brings a distinctive resonance to its dialogue with the strings. The instruments’ histories and individual timbres become essential elements of the interpretation.

A composer’s tribute to composers: this idea lies at the heart of The Continuous Thread, a chamber music project conceived by Kamil Tchalaev. Moving from the sonatas of Mendelssohn and Mozart towards the Baroque world of Bach and Handel, the programme explores the continuity of musical thought across eras.
