Armenian trumpet player Hayk (Aik) Grigoryan is a musician who plays with both the precision of a master and the soul of a storyteller. His sound carries the same lyrical depth and quiet intensity that defined legends like Miles Davis and Chet Baker — music that breathes, reflects, and speaks directly to the heart.
A graduate of the Yerevan State Conservatory, Grigoryan’s career has taken him from Armenia’s premier jazz orchestras to the world stage with the Moscow Jazz Orchestra under Igor Butman, performing in iconic venues such as Blue Note New York and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola.
Grigoryan’s debut album Puzzle (2020) revealed him as not only a trumpet virtuoso but also a composer with a distinct modern voice. His music moves with an elegant balance of part classic jazz lyricism, part contemporary expression — weaving gentle melodies with bold bursts of improvisation. It often feels painterly in its flow , with each solo like a brushstroke and each harmony a carefully placed shade.
Grigoryan is also an accomplished visual artist, creating paintings that, like his music, emphasize balance, motion, and emotional depth. His works have been exhibited in Yerevan and Moscow, offering another window into the same creative sensibility that shapes his trumpet sound.
This September, the Hayk Grigoryan Quartet will present both pillars of his musical world: time-honored jazz standards and original compositions from Puzzle. It’s an evening where the familiar meets the new, interpreted through the voice of an artist who understands the trumpet as both an instrument and a storyteller’s pen. During the concert, an indoor exhibition of his paintings will accompany the performance, which will be a rare chance to experience his artistry across both sound and image in one evening.
